Spotlight: Aftercare Partner GEVA, Inc. Equine Retirement Foundation

The Glen Ellen Vocational Academy, Inc. (GEVA) is Northern California’s oldest Thoroughbred retirement and rehabilitation sanctuary, founded in 1995 by Pam Berg on her Glen Ellen Farms. GEVA provides a safe haven for off-track Thoroughbreds and a few unraced horses, focusing on their health, rehabilitation, and well-being. Accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) and the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), GEVA has a longstanding reputation for excellence in equine care and sanctuary management.

GEVA was also established as a bilingual vocational school to teach individuals the skills needed to work with horses safely, humanely, and confidently. The program emphasizes responsibility and compassion, aiming to inspire horse owners, trainers, and racetracks to prioritize the welfare of the horses that have served them. Berg’s vision has always been rooted in ensuring that these animals receive the dignified retirement they deserve while fostering a culture of care within the equine industry.

GEVA is currently seeking individuals located near their facility in Glen Ellen, CA who are experienced with horses and to help run the farm. Inquire on their website to learn more.
